WWE Executive Reacts To Rey Mysterio Saving Ex-Champion From Injury
Rey Mysterio is arguably the greatest luchador in wrestling.
His career spans over three decades, having debuted as a 14-year-old in the independent circuit in 1989.
Before joining WWE, he competed in several promotions, including ECW and WCW.
The masked luchador’s major break came at World Championship Wrestling, which was the WWF’s closest competitor in the 1990s.
There, he won multiple titles like the Cruiserweight Championship and Tag Team Championship. During the latter stages of his career in WCW, he wrestled unmasked after losing a stipulation match against Kevin Nash.
In 2002, he joined the Stamford promotion and has since remained a loyalist, becoming a 3-time World Champion.
Nick Khan Recalls Rey Mysterio Vs. Logan Paul From WWE Crown Jewel 2023
While Rey Mysterio is renowned for his athleticism, speed, and aerial work, he is also considered one of the safest wrestlers in the industry.
WWE President Nick Khan recently appeared on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, where he spoke highly about Mysterio, even recalling Paul’s match with him at Crown Jewel 2023, where the YouTuber was saved and helped by him.
The match was for the United States Championship, held by Mysterio at the time. The Mexican superstar put the social media star over, winning him his first championship in the promotion.
There was one match, you and Rey Mysterio. Think about the work that guy has put into his career. When he was in WCW, he was considered a nothing. A nothing. He came to WWE, and he had a great luchador history prior to WCW, he came to WWE and the machine got behind him. He did everything he needed to do to be elevated by that machine.
In that match, you saw him save you or certainly help you, or make sure there wasn’t physical injury, which there could have been. I remember watching how quickly he did it and how instinctively he knew what to do. It made me happy that you were in the ring with one of the all-time great pros. [H/T: Fightful]
