WWE EVP Denies Knowing CM Punk Was Returning

cm punk wwe survivor series return

CM Punk’s return to WWE really was kept a secret according to one backstage figure.

When CM Punk walked out at the end of Survivor Series, he and WWE shocked the wrestling world. Not only was a return for Punk seemingly unlikely given how he left the company in 2014, but there was no confirmation on social media or across any form of media that he’d be back.

So in keeping Punk’s return a secret, the star and WWE had almost achieved the impossible.

Speaking after the event, Triple H revealed that the deal between Punk and the company came together quickly and was a closely guarded secret. With regard to those involved in the Survivor Series main event, it was reported that those WWE Superstars were told in advance that CM Punk would be appearing.

Speaking on Oh You Didn’t Know, Road Dogg, who serves as Senior Vice President of Live Events, denied he had any prior knowledge of Punk’s return.

“I had zero [idea he was coming back] all the way up until his music. That’s just the truth of it.”

When it was put to Road Dogg that the moment had done huge numbers on social media, the veteran acknowledged that the “needle has moved.”

“Yeah, the needle has moved. I don’t know, to me, it’s just more of the same awesome ever since Hunter’s been in charge of creative content. It’s just one more thing that was just like, you wanna be the best? This is how you do it. You know what I mean? S

uper cool to be involved, but not so involved that I still am surprised when the music hits and you go, ‘Oh my god.’ So it was super cool to see all that. Then of course, from a business stand point, business is booming, and his addition to the roster is only gonna help that.”

CM Punk Looking To Land NXT Job

Since returning to WWE, CM Punk has been on something of a tour of the company. Most intriguingly, this has seen Punk pop up backstage at two different NXT tapings to offer advice to WWE’s stars of the future.

This has led to reports that long-term CM Punk is looking to succeed Shawn Michaels as Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative.
