WWE Plans For Drew McIntyre And CM Punk Revealed
CM Punk continues to torment Drew McIntyre.
At Money in the Bank, Drew McIntyre thought he’d got it all figured out. In the opening match of the night, he dodged the chaos — just about, to win the men’s Money in the Bank contract. Part one: complete.
Then later in the show, he cashed in that contract during the World Heavyweight Title match between Seth Rollins and Damian Priest. But, just as he was closing in on victory, CM Punk appeared from nowhere to beat McIntyre from pillar to post with a steel chair, and then the World Heavyweight Title belt.
With the Scottish star now battered and beaten, Priest delivered a South of Heaven Chokeslam to retain his title. His victory, and Punk’s involvement, also mean Rollins won’t be able to challenge for the title again while Priest is champion.
The attack from Punk continued the rivalry between himself and McIntyre that began back at the Royal Rumble.
What’s Next For Drew McIntyre And CM Punk?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio after the event, Dave Meltzer noted current plans call for the pair to meet SummerSlam — although nothing is ever 100% locked in.
“Right now, it is not one hundred percent as far as (CM) Punk vs Drew (McIntyre) at SummerSlam, but I was told that it is probable.
I was pretty much told that they’re pretty confident in it but they can’t go and say one hundred percent because it isn’t one hundred percent, but it’s been the hope, but it’s now more than a hope, now it’s a plan.”
To date, two matches have been confirmed for SummerSlam with Damian Priest defending the World Heavyweight Title against Gunther, and Bayley putting the Women’s Title on the line against Nia Jax. Gunther and Jax earned their matches after winning the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments respectively.
