Why WWE Legend Believes Dominik Mysterio Was Elevated By Title Loss

Dominik Mysterio is no longer the Intercontinental Champion, but a WWE legend believes that Dirty Dom is a bigger star after losing to John Cena.

John Cena’s final WWE Raw appearance in his hometown of Boston led to an impromptu title match and a title change.

The reason there was a title change is that the cocky former Intercontinental Champion, Dominik Mysterio, rudely interrupted Cena and complained to WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque about what was bothering Dirty Dom. After words were exchanged, Cena was given an IC Title shot against Mysterio.

It was a very entertaining Intercontinental Title match that saw Dominik try to cheat multiple times, which he did for over six months as the IC Champion. However, the veteran Cena was ready for Dom’s cheating ways, and Cena found a way to hit the Attitude Adjustment to win the IC Title for the first time.

Matt Hardy is a WWE legend who is also a current TNA Tag Team Champion, and he is still active in pro wrestling after starting in the business over 30 years ago. On his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the future Hall of Famer Hardy spoke about why he liked the title change.

“I thought it was a very smart move. I think the fact that you are giving him a title that he’s never won before, you’re rewarding him with that title on his way out.

It also makes him a Grand Slam champion, which is something very special. It’s smart, because that way you highlight him and you’re sending him out on a high note, which is very important. Because there’s been so much discourse in his whole run this year.

Dominik Mysterio Came Off As A Massive Star In IC Title Loss

Matt Hardy went on to speak about how Dominik Mysterio was elevated even though he lost the Intercontinental Title.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it, like it elevated Dom. Dom went out there and had such great composure. He came off as a massive star. I’m sure deep down, he was nervous because he’s wrestling John Cena in one of his final matches. But he killed it, it was great.

I mean, they went out and they told a basic, simple story. They did simple things, they did things that couldn’t miss. The crowd was there, it was lively. They’re in Boston., it’s Cena’s hometown. Dom is a piece of s**t heel who has great heat, knows what he’s doing, really knows how to annoy the people. And they just worked it the smart way.

They did a really smart and brilliant match. They optimized crowd reaction, they threw a great tribute to Eddie G. The way they did all that was really good. Everything about it I loved.”

After the title loss, Dominik Mysterio went on a rant about how The Judgment Day didn’t help him, which could lead to problems with the group.
