WWE Ditch Plans For Another SummerSlam Weekend Show
WWE won’t change the structure of SummerSlam weekend.
For the first time ever, SummerSlam will be a two-night event in 2025. The move follows in the footsteps of WrestleMania, which has been spread across multiple nights since 2020.
The ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’ is set to be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 2 and August 3. The stadium, which is usually home to the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL teams, has previously hosted WrestleMania twice.
SummerSlam’s expansion led to speculation that an NXT event could be added to the weekend, taking place earlier in the day. This again would follow WrestleMania, where Stand & Deliver is held on the afternoon of day one.
However, it seems that won’t be the case. As reported on Wrestle Votes Radio via Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, WWE has no plans to add NXT to SummerSlam weekend.
“Yes, there is info on that. That’s a great question to start off with. No, they will not be doing anything tied into SummerSlam weekend as of now. They do have their own event—it will be taking place at the end of August and we’re looking to nail down the date and location for that—but no, it will not be tied into SummerSlam weekend.”
WWE Makes WrestleMania Change
Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that WrestleMania 42 won’t take place in New Orleans, despite a huge announcement by The Rock back in February. Instead, the city will host Money In The Bank in 2026 and a different WrestleMania in the future.
It’s since been suggested that the event will now be held in Las Vegas in 2026, returning to the scene of WrestleMania 41.
According to one report, the late change has caused “immediate frustration within the industry,” while people in WWE were said to be “shocked” by the news.
