Controversial WWE Decision Could End Up Destroying Gunther
Gunther’s WWE career is allegedly at risk, according to a wrestling veteran.
The Ring General recently defeated Jey Uso on Monday Night RAW to capture the World Heavyweight Championship for the second time in his career.
Last week on the red brand, Gunther was confronted by a returning Goldberg, who informed him that he was next and that they would go head-to-head at Saturday Night’s Main Event in the Hall of Famer’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
WWE later announced that the match would be for the World Heavyweight Championship, a decision that was slammed by many fans and experts.
One of these experts was former Interim RAW General Manager Jonathan Coachman. Speaking on The Coach & Bro Show, he claimed that Goldberg beating Gunther for the title would destroy the latter.
For Goldberg to come back Vince at 58 years old, and to get a World Heavyweight Title match tells me one of two things: We know he’s not going to win because he’s 58 or if he is, that absolutely destroys Gunther.
And being the World Heavyweight Champion for three weeks or four weeks at a time. Either way, making it for the title, to me, is a huge mistake. [27:05 onwards]
Vince Russo Thinks Goldberg Could Realistically Dethrone Gunther
On the same episode of The Coach & Bro Show, Jonathan Coachman’s co-host, former WWE head writer Vince Russo, explained why he believes there is a realistic chance that Goldberg ends Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship reign.
The wrestling veteran claimed The WWE Hall of Famer would likely refuse to lose to a superstar who had suffered defeat against Sami Zayn and Jey Uso.
Goldberg’s made such a big deal about the last match and he was promised the last match, I find it hard to believe that Goldberg is gonna wanna go out in a last match and lose to a guy that Sami Zayn beat and Jey Uso beat, but Goldberg can’t beat? I don’t know, Coach.
