WWE Crowns New Women’s Champion

Rhea Ripley vs. Candice LeRae on WWE Raw

A new WWE champion has been decided.

Back in August, it was announced that WWE would be introducing a Speed Women’s Championship, to go alongside the men’s title created in April. Fast forward to October 11th, and the first-ever champion has been decided.

After advancing through a short tournament, Candice LeRae and IYO SKY met in the finals with LeRae coming out on top following a springboard moonsault. The victory marks LeRae’s first singles title win since joining WWE in 2017.

The former NXT star beat Piper Niven and Kairi Sane to advance to the finals, while IYO SKY saw off Lyra Valkyria and Naomi. The final of the tournament was originally taped on October 4th.

Calls Growing For New WWE Main Roster Women’s Title

At NXT Stand & Deliver it was announced that WWE would be introducing a second women’s singles championship for the first time. The Women’s NXT North American Title was subsequently won by Kelani Jordan at Battleground.

The introduction of the new championship reignited calls for another women’s title to be introduced on the main roster. On an episode of his podcast, The Undertaker said he would like to see new versions of the Intercontinental and United States Titles created.

In September, Bianca Belair weighed in on the subject, commenting that another title would help highlight the depth of the women’s roster. Belair is currently one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions.
