WWE Crowns Another New Champion
WWE has crowned a new champion, but the title win might have slipped under the radar.
NXT Gold Rush Night 1 saw Jacy Jayne win back the NXT Women’s Championship from Tatum Paxley, but that victory was crueller than many might have expected. The Culling turned on Paxley during the bout with Izzi Dame, taking out her supposed friend with a vicious kick, allowing Jayne to hit her rolling forearm and pick up the victory.
However, another WWE champion was crowned, but that happened away from the cameras and on an independent show in Cranston, Rhode Island.
WWE ID Title Captured
At Wrestling Open RI, the WWE ID Women’s Championship was on the line in a six-way match. At the start of the show, only five of the challengers were confirmed, with a qualifying six-way match taking place earlier in the night. 33-year-old Laynie Luck, who competed on AEW Collision earlier in the year, won that qualifying bout to join Airica Demia, Brittnie Brooks, Notorious Mimi, Shannon LeVangie, and Tiara James in the main event.
Laynie’s luck was in as she picked up the victory and with it the WWE ID Women’s Championship. Luck becomes only the second holder of that title after the inaugural champion, Kylie Rae. Rae was forced to relinquish the title after announcing her pregnancy.
