WWE Creative Decision Allegedly Ruined Gunther’s Credibility

Gunther WWE

Gunther is going to face John Cena in The Champ’s last match on December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

He defeated LA Knight in the final round of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament to emerge as Never Seen 17’s final opponent.

However, not everyone is on board with the idea of The Ring General retiring The Champ.

WWE ruined Gunther’s credibility

The Ring General cut a fiery promo on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. Following that, Bully Ray took to social media to claim that everyone should understand why The Ring General won the tournament after that promo. Jonathan Coachman was tagged on that because he had claimed that Gunther vs. John Cena does not make sense at all.

Coachman stayed glued to his idea.

Did you see the opening of raw tonight? OG mindsets who are obsessed with Gunther’s “in ring technical” work can’t admit that for an entertaining match and for the LAST match for Cena this was completely the wrong call. Cena wanted this to pay it forward for the whole thing. I don’t care if I don’t “get” it I am right. And way more people agree with me than don’t.

WWE’s former head-writer, Vince Russo, agreed to it. Furthermore, Russo claimed that the former World Heavyweight Champion’s credibility was ruined when WWE put Sami Zayn over.

I do COACH!!! When @WWE Creative made the decision to put Sami Zayn over Gunther—-the Gunther character lost all credibility.

Not only did WWE put Sami Zayn over, but also Jey Uso. It was previously reported that some “big names” in WWE weren’t happy with Gunther being John Cena’s final opponent.
