Cody Rhodes WWE Title Match Confirmed For SummerSlam
Cody Rhodes will defend the WWE Championship against the man who recently pinned him in a tag team match.
The main event segment on the July 12th edition of WWE Smackdown featured Cody Rhodes confronting The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa & Jacob Fatu.
During that confrontation, Cody made it clear to Solo that he would defend the WWE Championship against Solo at SummerSlam. The match wasn’t confirmed until WWE officially announced it six days later on Thursday.
It’s a WWE Championship match that Solo Sikoa has earned because, in the main event of Money in the Bank in Toronto, Solo pinned Cody in a six-man tag team match. That six-man tag team match saw Solo team up with Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga to beat Rhodes, Kevin Owens & Randy Orton. Solo got the win after giving Cody a Samoan Spike.
On the aforementioned episode of Smackdown, The Bloodline foursome decimated Cody’s friend/mentor Randy Orton while Cody was tied up in the ropes watching it happen. The assault ended with The Bloodline giving Orton a devastating triple Powerbomb through the commentary table.
Cody Rhodes Wants To Face The Rock In A Singles Match
When it comes to the future, Cody Rhodes recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet about how he still wants to have a match with The Rock. It was at WrestleMania 40 Saturday when The Rock pinned Cody in the main event tag match that saw Rock & Roman Reigns beat Rhodes & Seth Rollins.
“Offer still stands. And again, if he never comes back, he’s done it all. He really has. And as much as I insulted him previously, it was an honor to be part of his last outing. But what I learned physically in the ring with him, it shouldn’t be his last outing.”
There’s more. There’s not just gas left in the tank, there might be multiple tanks. There’s more, and I would like the WWE Universe or pro wrestling fans, I’d like them to see that. I think there’s a world where, WWE Director of the Board — great, but I think there’s a world where WWE really benefits.”
And this young audience being able to connect with him, they don’t know him as the People’s Champ, they know him as the Final Boss. That offer stands whenever.”
It’s not known when The Rock might come back to WWE, but the Rhodes-Rock match is one of the rumored big matches at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas in April 2025.
While The Rock may be a target down the line, it’s Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam for the Undisputed WWE Title in what might be the main event of that show.
