Why WWE’s CM Punk Believes Wrestling Is A Selfish Business
CM Punk doesn’t believe pro-wrestling is a team sport.
Since returning to WWE, CM Punk has been praised for helping rising stars in NXT and being available to any talent who wants to ask him for advice. In part, this is because the Voice of the Voiceless is acutely aware of how selfish the pro-wrestling business can be.
In a recent interview with Jackie Redmond for WWE’s YouTube channel, Punk discussed giving advice to younger talent and explained that those stars have things to teach him too.
“The air I operate in is pretty rare. Obviously, the guys I’m competing against, they’re not asking me for advice. They don’t care what I think, but there are other people who maybe do. There are other people who maybe ask because they think politically that’s the smart thing to do. My time, I used here pretty openly. I’m here to help people. The selfish aspect of it is that I could talk to a 20-year-old track and field athlete from NXT and I’m looking for something I can learn. It’s a two way street. 46-year-old CM Punk doesn’t know what cool is, if he ever did. Maybe the kids can help me out with that.”
Punk went on to talk about the importance of the wrestlers who paved the way for the current generation, before admitting he can get carried away talking about his own influence.
“This business, you’re nothing without the people who paved the road prior to you. This isn’t a team sport. This is a very selfish business. I don’t like talking about myself because I wind up saying these wildly, what I feel, are egotistical things like I’m tired of pretending that half the locker room didn’t buy a pair of boots because they saw CM Punk wrestle.”
CM Punk Gets Another Shot At WWE WrestleMania 41 Main Event
On the February 3rd edition of Raw, CM Punk defeated Sami Zayn to secure a place in the Elimination Chamber in Toronto, Canada on March 1st. The winner of that match will get a title shot at WrestleMania 41. The star will have tough competition, though, as John Cena has already announced he will also be inside the demonic structure as he strives to win a record-breaking 17th World Title before he retires at the end of 2025.
