WWE Changed SummerSlam Plans For Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam.
Back in June, Alexa Bliss began popping up in backstage segments with Charlotte Flair and pitching that the pair should team up. Although Flair was more than a little hesitant to begin with, she eventually gave in.
The unlikely duo quickly became number one contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Championship, but they lost to Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez at Evolution.
However, on the July 18 episode of SmackDown, it was confirmed that Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will get another shot at the gold.
WWE Tweaks Plans For Charlotte Flair
During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer ran down the card for SummerSlam, reiterating that it’s undergone several changes. This includes scrapping plans to break up Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair.
“That match was originally going to be Charlotte and Alexa against each other, so I guess the idea was that they figured that the team was doing well, so why rush it? It was kind of like a Randy Orton, Matt Riddle thing … the original idea for the team was they were going to split up right away and feud, but that has been apparently delayed.”
Meltzer also suggested that WWE had decided against putting Roman Reigns into a huge singles match on the show. He explained that originally, Reigns was in line for a match with Bron Breakker, with Jey Uso taking on Bronson Reed. However, he now believes that the quartet will be involved in a tag team match.
