WWE Makes Significant Change To Major Raw Match On Netflix Premiere

Triple H on the mic on WWE Raw

WWE has quietly made a change to a high-profile match.

As the world already knows, WWE Raw will debut on Netflix on January 6th, and the company going all out for the big night. The show will be getting a new theme song, logo, commentary team, ring announcer, and there could even be an appearance from The Rock thrown in for good measure.

It’s been announced that the episode will feature John Cena as he begins his retirement tour, while Roman Reigns faces Solo Sikoa in Tribal Combat, and Seth Rollins and CM Punk finally go one-on-one. It’s also been confirmed that Liv Morgan will defend the Women’s World Title against Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing Match, or at least that was the plan.

During Raw on December 30th, the match was promoted as a singles bout, and on WWE.com it’s listed without a stipulation.

WWE Raw Match Moved

Meanwhile, days earlier, fans were quick to notice that the finals of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament will now take place on January 13th. The bout which will be between Lyra Valkyria and Dakota Kai had originally been scheduled for a week earlier.

As noted on WrestleVotes Radio via SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, wants to make sure the match and first champion can be given the attention they deserve.

“We are told that WWE shifted the finals of the Women’s Intercontinental Tournament off of the Netflix debut in order for the match to not get lost in the shuffle. It seems like WWE wants to get this title off and running in a big way, and felt as though having it mixed in with a show the size of Netflix premiere would not do that justice.”

With regard to Raw, it’s been reported that Lilian Garcia will be leaving the brand and heading to SmackDown, switching with Alicia Taylor. It had already been confirmed that Michael Cole and Pat McAfee will be calling the action on Raw with Joe Tessitore moving to SmackDown.
