WWE Champion Takes Major Shot At Mariah May Following Her Debut
A champion in WWE doesn’t think too highly of Mariah May after May’s shocking NXT debut.
It had been reported for several months that Mariah May intended to sign with WWE after wrestling in her final AEW match at the Revolution PPV in March.
May had an impressive two-year run in AEW as a former Women’s World Champion who was both an ally and a rival of the current Women’s World Champion, Toni Storm. During her time at AEW, May demonstrated that she could deliver great matches while showcasing a range of different character traits.
The deal May had with AEW expired at the end of May, so that’s why she was able to join WWE on the June 3rd edition of NXT officially. While the new NXT Women’s Champion, Jacy Jayne, was in the ring and being confronted by numerous women wanting a title shot, the lights went out in the building.
When the lights came back on, a spotlight was on the platform in the building, and that’s where Mariah May was standing while the fans were going crazy, and so were the announcers.
For her WWE debut promo, May said that she had finally arrived and that you can call her the next NXT Women’s Champion. May said that the best women’s division in the world just got a lot more glamorous.
In a social media video posted by WWE, May talked about her arrival in NXT.
It’s about damn time. I’ve wrestled all over the world, and it’s only right that the glamour arrives in NXT.
As for the WWE NXT Women’s Champion, Jacy Jayne, she took to X/Twitter to call May a “flavor of the month.”
“Oh look, another new flavor of the month”

That’s likely a reference to WWE bringing in other international stars, such as Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer, into NXT over the last year, and both are now on the main roster.
Mariah May Likely To Have New WWE Name During Her Second Appearance On NXT
During her appearance on NXT, neither the announcers nor May mentioned her name. That’s because WWE often gives its talents different names in some cases, and it’s expected that May will have a different name when she appears on NXT next week.
That same thing happened to former NXT North American Champion Ricky Saints, who was known as Ricky Starks (his real name) in AEW and other places throughout his career.
Jeff Cobb was also given a new name when he joined WWE because he is now known as JC Mateo.
Oftentimes, fans don’t like when familiar wrestlers get name changes, but it’s also something fans are used to, and the new name is something we will get used to.
