WWE Bringing Back Popular PLE Concept
A WWE PLE that was popular with fans is going to be making a triumphant return during a holiday weekend.
The first and only WWE Evolution PLE took place on October 28, 2018. The concept of the show was simple: Women’s wrestling matches only.
Evolution 2018 was a great event headlined by Ronda Rousey beating Nikki Bella in the main event while Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair stole the show in a Last Woman Standing Match that was arguably one of the best women’s matches in WWE history. It was a show full of current stars, legends, and rising stars.
At the time of the first Evolution PLE, there was a belief that Evolution only took place because the WWE events in Saudi Arabia had started without any women’s matches on the show. As the years went on, women’s matches were added to Saudi Arabian WWE shows and there was never another Evolution show.
It has been reported by the Bodyslam.net x PWN Discord via CodyWhoades that the Evolution PLE will return on Saturday, July 5th, which is one day after the July 4th holiday in the US for the country’s Independence Day.
“WWE is looking to host an Evolution PLE in the near future. Everything on the schedule is still tentative, but it’s currently set for 7/5 at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. We will share more updates as things get confirmed, so stay tuned.”
The current WWE women’s roster is loaded with a stacked group on Raw, there is a solid core on SmackDown and NXT might be the best of them all with so many impressive stars, including international newcomers like Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia.
Ronda Rousey Claims WWE Offered To Bring Back Evolution In 2019
Many women in WWE have called for the company to bring back Evolution, including Bayley in a May 2024 social media post saying that the Queen of the Ring tournament would be perfect for an Evolution PLE.
Ronda Rousey main evented Evolution in October 2018 and she went on to main event WrestleMania 35 in 2019 with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Lynch won both Women’s Titles that night while Rousey left WWE for about three years.
In an August 2024 interview, Ronda Rousey claimed that WWE offered to bring back Evolution in 2019 and put Rousey in a match with Lynch.
“Well, they offered to bring it back for a second time. They said, ‘Ronda, if you stay after WrestleMania, we’ll have another Evolution in 6 weeks and have you and Becky as a singles,’ and I was like, ‘I promised my family.’ I was always saying, ‘Oh, I want to go from WrestleMania until Survivor Series,’ and then Triple H convinced me to stay from WrestleMania to WrestleMania, and I promised my family like, ‘That’s it.’
I got kids and a husband and a home, and this is like I’m gone for weeks on end, and so when they said that, I was like, ‘No, I’ve already asked too much of my family. I can’t ask any more of them. I promised them this. I promised you I would stay this long, and I promised them I would only stay this long, and I’m not going to keep moving the goalpost,’ and then I ended up shattering my knuckle anyway, which I got an extra little nug now, so I wouldn’t have been able to do it regardless. But, yeah, they tried to dangle that carrot for me, but I couldn’t.”
If WWE does bring back the Evolution PLE in July then they will likely announce it soon so that they can give fans time to buy tickets to the event.
