WWE Bringing Back Bizarre Blindfold Match
WWE is bringing back the blindfold match as two current stars are set to face each other without the ability to see.
For weeks now, Lexis King has been a thorn in the side of NXT star Myles Borne. Borne was born partially deaf, and King has used this to poke fun at the star. That then turned into a confused Lexis King making jokes about Borne being unable to see either. In response, NXT General Manager Ava decided to book the two men in a blindfold match on the August 26th edition of NXT TV.
It’s been almost five years since a blindfold match took place on WWE television. In November 2020, Cameron Grimes clashed with Dexter Lumis in a bizarre match that went to a no contest.
A Short History Of Blindfold Matches In WWE
While WWE has not had a blindfold match on TV in nearly five years, Andre Chase and JD McDonagh competed in one on an NXT live event in 2023. That bout went to a no contest as well.
The October 7th 2002 edition of Raw saw Raw Roulette appear for the very first time. With the wheel choosing the stipulations for the night’s matches, Triple H ended up defeating D-Lo Brown in a blindfold match in short order. Thanks to the Raw Roulette wheel, that match was far from the strangest stipulation on the show, with a bra and panties paddle on a pole match also taking place. Still, it was William Regal taking on Goldust in a Las Vegas Showgirl match that stole the show that night.
The most famous blindfold match in WWE history took place at WrestleMania 7, where Rick Martel did battle with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. Jake Roberts picked up the win over The Model at that show.
