WWE Expected To Break Record At Royal Rumble 2023
2023 looks like it will kick off with a bang for WWE with January’s Royal Rumble event set to break records according to a new report.
The annual January spectacular is a highlight of WWE’s calendar with fans eager to see which stars will make a surprise appearance and who will ultimately book themselves a title match at WrestleMania 39 by winning the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.
In 2022 it was two shocks in the Rumble matches as Ronda Rousey returned to WWE for the first time in almost three years to win the women’s match. While in the men’s match Brock Lesnar entered at number 30 and picked up the win to make up for losing the WWE Title to Bobby Lashley earlier in the night.
Speaking on the Q3 earnings call, co-CEO of WWE Nick Khan noted that the live gate for the event that will take place in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas is already at $4.6 million.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the 2023 Royal Rumble is on course to break the record for the biggest live gate in the event’s history:
“The Rumble’s got a $4.6 million advance, which is the second biggest… it’s the biggest advance at this stage for the Rumble in history. It’s the second biggest of all time for a Rumble, and they’ve still got another three months to sell tickets, November, December, and January. So it’ll be the biggest ever.”
