WWE Bound Star Competes In Final NJPW Match
WWE bound star Jeff Cobb has competed in his final bout for NJPW.
The powerful star fulfilled his final obligation with the company at NJPW Road to Wrestling Dontaku on 19th April.
Cobb was defeated by Hiroshi Tanahashi during the event at Korakuen Hall, with both men embracing in the ring after the bout.
The 42 year-old is expected to join WWE having surprisingly requested his release from the company less than two weeks after joining forces with Callum Newman to capture the IWGP Tag Team Championships from Naito and Hiromu Takahashi at Sakura Genesis on 5th April 2025. The company have since announced that the titles have been vacated.
Jeff Cobb’s arrival to WWE appeared to have been teased recently by The Rock , who took to social media in an NJPW t-shirt, with many suggesting that Cobb could be taken under the wing of ‘The Final Boss’ upon his signing with the company.
NJPW Part Ways With Major Star
It has been a difficult couple of weeks for NJPW, with former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito also parting ways with the organisation.
The departure of the 42 year-old Tokyo-born star was confirmed in a statement released by NJPW on 16th April:
“In recent weeks, conversations have been ongoing between New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Tetsuya Naito regarding Naito’s future wrestling activities. As a result of those conversations, both parties have mutually agreed not to renew Naito’s contract with NJPW.
Both parties have arrived at this decision after careful consideration and lengthy conversation. Naito’s contract ends on the best possible terms with NJPW, which joins fans in wishing Naito further success in any and all future endeavours.”
