WWE Confirm Bizarre Referee Instructions Segment For Raw
After all the bad blood between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk, they’ll now be part of one of the most unusual segments in WWE Raw history.
On Raw in Green Bay, CM Punk came looking for a fight. Uncharacteristically, however, Drew McIntyre was not ready to engage Punk and seemed intent on waiting, and the reason for this soon became clear. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced that CM Punk was cleared to compete, McIntyre’s suspension was over and the two would finally clash at SummerSlam.
The bad blood has been building to boiling point ever since McIntyre injured Punk during the men’s Royal Rumble and he has taken great delight in Punk’s misfortune ever since. For his part, CM Punk has screwed Drew McIntyre out of the World Heavyweight Championship three times as the two stars look to destroy each other physically and mentally.
With this in mind, Adam Pearce named a special guest referee for the SummerSlam showdown with Seth Rollins set to don the black and white stripes and have his say on who comes out on top – something neither McIntyre nor Punk will be relishing.
WWE Advertising “Referee Instructions” Segment
Now ahead of SummerSlam, WWE has confirmed that the final Raw before the biggest party of the summer will see a “Referee Instructions” segment take place with Seth Rollins said to be given his final instructions to CM Punk and Drew McIntyre ahead of their clash.
2024’s SummerSlam will take place exactly 27 years after 1997’s edition of the show that was headlined by Bret Hart defending his WWE Title against The Undertaker with Shawn Michaels as special referee. After being spat on, Michaels aimed a chair shot at Hart’s head but The Hitman ducked and HBK nailed The Undertaker instead and was forced to count the pinfall for Hart’s victory as a result.
