WWE Bad Blood Match Sparked Panic Backstage
The intense Hell in a Cell match at WWE Bad Blood led to some panicking backstage due to something that happened in the match.
At WWE Bad Blood in Atlanta, CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre in an incredible Hell in a Cell match that has been praised as perhaps the best match this year in WWE or anywhere else in the world.
During the match, CM Punk bled after doing a blade job (when a wrestler intentionally cuts himself to cause blood during a match), which is something WWE stopped doing for most of the last 15 years. However, it was reported that WWE has changed its mindset regarding blade jobs now that Triple H is calling the shots instead of Vince McMahon.
Drew McIntyre also bled in the match after Punk hit him in the head with an empty toolbox. McIntyre ended up bleeding heavily from the forehead during the match while referee Shawn Bennett used a towel to wipe Drew’s head, but there were times when Drew shoved him as well.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that people in WWE were panicked because of McIntyre’s massive blood loss from his forehead during the Bad Blood match with Punk.
“Backstage and at ringside they were panicking because of how bad the wound was and that he was so bloody and it wouldn’t stop. They at first talked about having the doctor get in the cage and trying to stop the bleeding but the decision was made not to do it because it was Hell in a Cell. They wanted to wipe the blood off him with a towel.”
“McIntyre basically took control and said that if he felt woozy he would give them the word and they would go right to the finish. While he took a hard shot, he showed no signs of a concussion, they proceeded as planned with no issues and he was very aware of what was going on and in control at all times.”
“This was different from AEW in the sense it was accidental, but even with not a full force shot, the reality is the tool box did more damage than the AEW chair shots. Some people tried to use it as AEW vs. WWE tribalism. Some tried to claim it was not the tool box that did it but we’ve got it confirmed that it was as well as the reaction to it.”
“But as far as learning from it, it’s probably a good idea going forward not to use heavy tool boxes to the head with any kind of velocity, Using them when the person delivering sees the opponent and can work it may be okay, but if you’re looking to do a head shot with great sound, this probably isn’t the object to use going forward.”
After the match, McIntyre needed 16 staples to close his gaping head wound.
CM Punk Taking Time Off After WWE Bad Blood
The rivalry between Punk and McIntyre appears to be done following their match at Bad Blood. During a speech on Raw, CM Punk said he was going to take some time off after his match with Drew McIntyre inside Hell In A Cell.
Punk is expected to miss the upcoming Crown Jewel PLE on November 2nd, but he will likely be back in time to set up something for Survivor Series four weeks later on November 30th, which is about one year after his WWE return.
