There is a push in WWE for a veteran star to win the new Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

In November, Raw GM Adam Pearce announced the creation of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, which will be the red brand’s counterpart to the new Women’s United States Title which will be featured on SmackDown.

The inaugural Intercontinental Champion will be decided in a 12-woman tournament featuring stars like Dakota Kai, Lyra Valkyria, and Zelina Vega. However, there is another star in the running who has a lot of backstage support, 20-year veteran Natalya.

According to WrestleVotes on a Backstage Pass Q&A, there are several figures who are hoping to see the star win gold for the first time since her Tag Team Title reign with Tamina back in 2021.

“We spoke last week on this show about how I’d like it to be Natalya. I did hear some feedback with some sentiments that were similar from sources that said they would like it to be Natalya as well. Now, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be her but there is some favouritism maybe that would like to see her win the Intercontinental Championship.”

Natalya Recently Underwent Surgery

Natalya has revealed that she recently took time off for eye surgery. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion admitted she was “legally blind” in her left eye due to being born with astigmatism. In the summer of 2024, the star took time away to undergo a new procedure that could finally fix the eye.
