Matt Riddle recently stirred controversy with his disrespectful comments about CM Punk’s wife, AJ Lee.

During an interview with TMZ, he implied Lee “got around,” which ignited backlash from fans and wrestling personalities alike. This controversy escalated notably in September when WWE Hall of Famer Booker T publicly criticized Riddle.

The WWE Hall of Famer called him disrespectful and warned that his attitude could ruin his chances of returning to a major wrestling promotion like WWE. Booker T expressed skepticism about Riddle’s respect for the wrestling business and his ability to reach top levels due to his behavior.

In response to the mounting criticism, Riddle appeared on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast and addressed the controversy. He stated that his comments regarding AJ Lee were based on locker room rumors and were never intended to hurt or offend anyone personally.

Riddle clarified he holds no personal grudge against The Geek Goddess. Moreover, he emphasized he has no beef with Booker T, respecting him as a fellow professional, and acknowledged that Booker was simply voicing his opinion.

However, the TMZ interview took a shocking turn when Riddle suddenly lashed out at interviewer Branson Quirke. During a heated moment, Riddle grabbed Quirke by the collar, pushed him onto a table, and slapped him before storming off with the TMZ championship belt. The incident shocked viewers and went viral on social media.

Some fans and observers speculated the altercation was a work (staged) to generate buzz, citing Riddle’s laughing demeanor and the relatively gentle nature of the push. Others saw it as a genuine outburst stemming from Riddle’s frustration with the interview’s direction and criticism.

Following the incident, Quirke via Twitter/X confirmed he was unharmed, only requiring an ice pack for his face. Opinions remain divided on whether the attack was real or scripted.
