WWE Apologised To Goldberg After Retirement Match
WWE made sure to say sorry to Goldberg after his retirement went off TV with a whimper.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther put Goldberg to sleep in their match for the World Heavyweight Championship. It was the WCW icon’s first match in three years and had been billed as the final bout of his career. After the loss, Goldberg was surrounded by friends and family as he gave a farewell address to fans, but this was cut off the TV broadcast as the show came to an abrupt end.
Goldberg has shared his anger at the situation and claimed his final moments in WWE might have been the “ultimate rib.” But according to those in the company, that’s definitely not the case.
WWE Did Not Intentionally Disrespect Goldberg
Speaking on Fightful Select’s Backstage Report, Sean Ross Sapp noted that someone in WWE apologised to Goldberg for the mishap and there are those in the company who remain sure that the abrupt ending to the show was not intentional:
I was told that someone within the company apologised to Goldberg for the interview getting cut off as quick as it did. But those that I spoke with were adamant that it was not intentional. It wasn’t an intentional disrespect thing for Goldberg to have his speech cut off.
It was also noted that there was no great surprise in WWE by Goldberg’s reaction to the situation:
They said they just weren’t surprised by his reaction. And they think that whenever the nature of his WWE deal is up, he’s probably going to talk about it a lot more.
Goldberg has previously noted that he’d be free to talk more freely in a couple of weeks, which is likely when his WWE deal officially comes to an end.
