WWE Confirms Major Question Hanging Over Goldberg Vs. Gunther

Goldberg WWE Raw entrance

Is this really the end for Goldberg?

The issues between Goldberg and Gunther have been steadily building since the pair got into a spat at Bad Blood back in October. Since then, Gunther has lost and recently regained the World Heavyweight Championship while the WCW legend has been preparing to get back in the ring.

Things finally came to a head on the June 16 edition of Raw, where Goldberg confronted Gunther and challenged him to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia. The bout was subsequently made official with the World Title on the line.

Gunther Match Will Be Goldberg’s Last

Although Goldberg had spoken about having a retirement match, and Michael Cole on commentary noted that he wanted one final World Title, there was no confirmation that the veteran would retire following Saturday Night’s Main Event.

While the odds were slim, some suggested that this left the door open for another match later in the year, should this one pass off without incident.

However, that has now changed.

In promotional material advertising tickets for the show, the headline bout is being touted as “Goldberg’s final match.”

The odd man out when it came to creating the Gunther vs. Goldberg clash was Jey Uso, with many fans feeling he was pushed aside for the WWE Hall of Famer. However, a new report has claimed that Uso was never meant to have a lengthy run with the World Heavyweight Championship, and was always planned to lose it back to Gunther.
