WWE & AEW TV Distributors Potentially Merging in 2024?
A potential massive merger could be happening between WWE and AEW TV networks in the near future.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Comcast CEO, Brian Roberts could have his eyes set on merging NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery as soon as 2024.
Per the report (via ComicBook):
“Obviously Peacock sucks,” an exec with knowledge of both companies said. “There are some good synergies. I’m sure [Roberts] is licking his chops because the [WBD] stock is so low. And I think that’s Zaslav’s endgame. Get the place sold.”
While a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery chimed in; “We are building Warner Bros. Discovery for the long term.”
NBCU and Warner Bros. Discovery can’t take place until April 2024, which is when Comcast has the rights to sell its remaining 33% of Hulu to Disney for $27.5 billion, if they so choose.
NBC Universal, of course has been partners with WWE for decades as Monday Night RAW has been a staple of USA Network since it’s inception in 1993 before appearing on Spike TV from 2000-2005 before returning to USA Network from 2005 until present day.
WWE famously sold the WWE Network (in the US-only) rights to the NBCU-owned streaming service, Peacock, where all of the companies’ premium live events have taken place since the deal went into action in April 2021. The deal was worth a reported $1 billion.
