WWE “Amateurish” For Goldberg Speech Issue
WWE has been labelled “amateurish” for their handling of Goldberg’s retirement after Saturday Night’s Main Event ended abruptly.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther put Goldberg to sleep in their match for the World Heavyweight Championship. It was the WCW icon’s first match in three years and had been billed as the final bout of his career. After the loss, Goldberg was surrounded by friends and family as he gave a farewell address to fans, but this was cut off the TV broadcast as the show came to an abrupt end.
Goldberg has hit out at WWE following the match for how his retirement was handled, and the WWE Hall of Famer even suggested being cut off might have been “the ultimate rib.”
Goldberg Retirement “A Mess”
But could his own match have run long, which caused the sudden end to the show?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer conceded that at least when it came to how Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air, the situation was a mess:
If you watch the show, it’s a mess; it’s amateurish in that sense. The guy wins, and then they do 28 seconds of his farewell before going off the air. It looked like it was poorly timed. Some of it was probably due to their own match going long. Whose job was that? Did the referee not tell them to go home, or did they go long on their own? We don’t know the answer. But as far as the timing itself goes, it’s terrible.
