WWE Allegedly Denied Legend’s Request To Participate In John Cena’s Retirement Tour
John Cena rode off into the sunset after competing in his final wrestling match on December 13.
At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII, Cena faced Gunther after the latter defeated over wrestlers across multiple weeks in the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament.
The outcome of the match saw the 17-time world champion tap out to The Ring General, which did not sit well with many wrestling fans.
Now, another disappointing update has emerged wherein WWE seemingly rejected a veteran wrestler’s pitch to be allowed to participate in Cena’s retirement tour.
During a recent episode of The Coach & Bro podcast, Vince Russo claimed that Kurt Angle was in contact with the company executives and pitched ideas only to have them rejected.
Coach, Kurt Angle was pitching ideas, and they turned him down. Yes, [John Cena’s retirement tour], they turned him down… Kurt Angle wanted to be a part of that last year and was pitching ideas to WWE, and they turned them down.
It was Angle against whom John Cena competed in his debut match in 2002 before becoming a household name in the years to come.
Kurt Angle Attended John Cena’s Final WWE Match
Kurt Angle last competed at WWE WrestleMania 35, where he lost his retirement match against Baron Corbin.
He later admitted to seeing some of his matches at the time, which made it clear that he was less mobile and less athletic, enabling him to arrive at the decision.
The Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., was highly publicized.
Several wrestling talents from John Cena’s past attended the show, including Kurt Angle, who was seated by the ringside during his match against Gunther.
Also in attendance were Trish Stratus, Eve Torres, Michelle McCool, Kevin Owens, Elijah, etc.
