WWE Interested In Major AEW Star
A new backstage report suggests that WWE has its eyes on a current champion in AEW.
The WWE roster is loaded with talent, including veterans who have been in the business for decades, many wrestlers who have come up through the company’s developmental system at NXT, and others who have yet to debut on television but have great potential.
There are also wrestlers who WWE acquires after they work in other promotions and have proven themselves to be good performers. That includes AEW, which is the number two promotion in the world.
Looking at NXT alone, there are big-name stars like Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and Blake Monroe who all proved themselves elsewhere before making it in WWE.
WWE Showing Interest In AEW’s Powerhouse Hobbs
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that WWE is showing interest in AEW Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs.
“There are those in WWE who are very high on Powerhouse Hobbs.”
The report did not reveal anything about Hobbs’ contract status with Tony Khan’s promotion or when he might become a free agent.
Powerhouse Hobbs has been All Elite since 2020 and has been a midcarder for most of his run. Hobbs is a former TNT Champion and currently holds the AEW Trios Titles with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata as a member of The Opps stable.
In the main event of AEW Dynamite on January 7th, Powerhouse Hobbs and Hook teamed up against “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland in a Lights Out Match. Page got the win for his team when he choked Hook with a chain around the throat, and Hook tapped out.
