WWE Adds Three Title Matches to Clash of Champions on December 17
The last WWE pay-per-view of 2017 is called Clash of Champions and it’s a Smackdown Live show that will take place on December 17 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
The first match announced for the card happened over a week ago when Jinder Mahal told current WWE Champion AJ Styles he wanted his rematch. It’s not known if that is going to be just a regular match or if they might add a stipulation to it.
In addition to Styles vs. Mahal for the WWE Title, here’s what WWE officially announced on Friday evening.
Smackdown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya – They had a title match on Smackdown two weeks ago, were attacked by the trio of Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan leading to the match getting thrown out, so they will do it again at Clash of Champions.
United States Championship: Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler – Corbin and Roode started the brawl during the Lumberjack Match two weeks ago. Ziggler has feuded with Roode for a few months. Most likely Ziggler’s just there to take the pin.
Smackdown Tag Team Championships: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) vs. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable – Benjamin & Gable were the #1 contenders that beat The Usos by countout. The New Day beat Benjamin & Gable on Smackdown this week, so that’s why it is a triple threat.
Clash of Champions means that all titles on the brand are going to be defended, so that’s all of them. Two out of four matches as triple threats is too much, but that’s WWE these days. They love repetitiveness.
Other names like Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura should have matches too. I think it will be Zayn vs. Orton (since Zayn cost Orton the match against Owens this past week on Smackdown) and then Owens vs. Nakamura could happen again.
Here’s the clip with Smackdown announcer Byron Saxton announcing the matches.
Why can’t WWE announce these things on Smackdown instead of the internet? I don’t know. That’s how they are sometimes.
