WWE Considered 5 Opponents For Brock Lesnar At WrestleMania
This list of who could have faced Brock Lesnar at ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’ has been revealed.
As it stands, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ is now set for a showdown with Omos at WrestleMania 39. However, over the last few months there have been several reports as to who could have been in line as his opponent instead.
In an article from Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful, there are around half a dozen names mentioned who at one point or another in the last few months have been speculated to be opponents for Brock Lesnar.
The first in line was seemingly ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, however Sapp notes that this offer was rejected by ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’.
Sometime towards the summer or fall of 2022, after the major WWE regime switch, we’re told Stone Cold Steve Austin was approached with the possibility of facing Brock Lesnar. Austin would decline, and we’re told that a subsequent offer was made for a possible match with Roman Reigns. However, we were also informed that there was a huge disparity in payout, with the pitched Lesnar match nowhere approaching that of the Reigns offer.
The report goes on to suggest that Gunther was then set to be the opponent, however by the time rumors of the match surfaced it had already been nixed. There were also suggestions that Lesnar could once again face Bobby Lashley, and it was even mentioned that Bray Wyatt could have been an option – however it is believed by some that Lesnar himself nixed the idea.
Sapp concludes with how we got to to the Omos match, and that there is a potential backup in place if required.
That leads us to Omos. That is the current plan for WrestleMania, though it was hinted to us that there was an undisclosed “backup,” but that it isn’t factored into creative plans. We should reiterate, it was never confirmed to us who pitched the match. However, it was confirmed to us that Brock Lesnar personally approved the Omos match.
