WWE In Crisis: 16 Superstars Injured Including Gunther & Liv Morgan
WWE is currently facing one of its toughest injury crises in recent memory, with 16 superstars sidelined across RAW, SmackDown, and NXT rosters.
This wave of injuries is impacting key performers and storylines, including top names like Gunther and Liv Morgan.
WWE RAW Stars That Are Currently Injured
Starting with the RAW roster, Gunther suffered severe injuries at WWE SummerSlam 2025 during his championship defense against CM Punk. He sustained a septal hematoma and an orbital blowout fracture, serious facial injuries that resulted from a brutal table spot where he was dropped face-first onto the announcer’s table.
This injury, announced on the August 4 episode of RAW by Michael Cole, has sidelined Gunther indefinitely with no estimated return date. Notably, reports confirmed that Gunther had an existing nose injury before SummerSlam and was scheduled for surgery following the event.
Liv Morgan’s injury occurred on the June 16 RAW episode in a match against Kairi Sane, where she dislocated her shoulder after an awkward landing. She underwent surgery conducted by Jeff Dugas of Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, and is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation with noted physical therapist Kevin Wilk.
Finn Balor revealed on RAW that Liv Morgan is expected to be out for at least six to eight months as she recovers. Despite the setback, Morgan remains dedicated to her comeback, with hopes of returning stronger.
Chad Gable sustained an injury, leading to successful arm surgery announced on July 1. Although specifics of his recovery timeline remain undisclosed, reports suggest he may miss the rest of the year due to the injury’s severity. Gable remained optimistic about his rehabilitation and has been seen attending public events during his recovery.
Austin Theory is listed as injured and has been absent from WWE programming since his last match on July 14 at WWE Main Event. The nature of his injury has not been disclosed publicly, and no timetable for his return has been provided. The tag team A-Town Down Under officially dissolved following Theory’s injury announcement.
Ilja Dragunov tore his ACL during a WWE live event in Columbus, Georgia, with his injury reported on September 30, 2024. Initially expected to be out for six to nine months, his recovery has taken longer, with updates indicating he was only recently cleared for in-ring competition after almost 11 months of rehabilitation. WWE is adopting a cautious approach and has yet to announce his official return date.
Otis underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery, which was exploratory in nature to assess damage. While he is not expected to miss an extended period, his timeline depends on recovery progress. Otis has been absent from WWE programming since May 2025.
Zoey Stark suffered a serious knee injury during a Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match on May 19, 2025. She underwent surgery and has begun her recovery journey. The injury is severe enough that she is projected to be out for the remainder of 2025.
Current Injured Stars On SmackDown and NXT Roster
On the SmackDown roster, Kevin Owens underwent successful neck surgery on July 18 after months of pain and nerve issues. Although the surgery was successful, medical experts expect a recovery period of nine months to over a year, likely ruling him out until 2026. Rey Mysterio confirmed a torn groin injury on April 18 SmackDown, followed by surgery for a torn adductor on April 28. His return remains uncertain.
Tama Tonga suffered an undisclosed injury in April 2025, possibly requiring surgery, with no return date announced. Apollo Crews had torn his pectoral muscle in January 2025 and underwent surgery in February, but remains sidelined. Elton Prince has been out since June 20 with an undisclosed injury, and his return timeline is unclear.
For WWE NXT, Adriana Rizzo announced on August 10, 2025, that she suffered a torn ACL and meniscus, indicating a long recovery ahead. Brinley Reece underwent shoulder surgery on May 23, 2025, and her return date is yet to be set. Noam Dar relinquished the NXT Heritage Cup due to an undisclosed injury and remains sidelined.
For the unassigned listed talent, Big E suffered a broken neck on March 11, 2022. He is currently awaiting neck scans to assess recovery potential before any return.
