Wrestling Legend Critical Of Jay White – “He Doesn’t Come Off Like A Star”
Jay White may have had a surprising debut, but some high-profile names in wrestling are already questioning his significance.
Most of Jay White’s career prior to joining AEW was in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he is a multi-time champion. After winning every singles title available to him in that company, White lost a loser leaves New Japan match in February, which led to talk of him being sought by both AEW and WWE.
But even though he chose AEW, there are already people wondering what he contributes to the company he has signed with. One of those more skeptical voices is Konnan, who explained his position on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast.
On it, Konnan explained that Jay White lacks anything that makes him truly unique and that Tony Khan, by hyping White up as yet another big signing, is coming across as a guy that has plenty of shiny toys but not enough time to play with them all.
“I’ve seen him do some good promos. He doesn’t come off like a star and the problem is that Tony [Khan] has painted himself into a corner. You know when you watch these shows like ‘Cribs’ and sh*t like that and the guy has got like 50 cars and you’re like, ‘Okay, when do you find time to drive them? Do you drive one every day, what’s the deal here?'”
Additionally, Konnan pointed out that Jay White lacks a discernable gimmick, which will further hamper his ability to actually make an impact in AEW and connect with their audience.
“He’s just another great wrestler in a promotion full of great wrestlers. What’s your gimmick? That you’re a part of the Bullet Club? And?”
