Wrestling Legend Disappointed By AEW Run Due To Lack Of Opportunities
A wrestling legend feels like he could have done way more during an AEW run that lasted four years.
The Hardy Boyz duo of Matt and Jeff Hardy are most known as WWE legends, having spent a significant amount of time there, dating back to the late 1990s. They will always be remembered as a legendary WWE tag team while Jeff was a World Champion in the company, and Matt held numerous singles titles.
Away from WWE, The Hardys have also achieved considerable success in TNA Wrestling. Both brothers were World Champions in TNA, and they are also the current four-time TNA Tag Team Champions.
There was also a time when the Hardys were in AEW as well. Matt started there in March 2020 until his run ended after four years in April 2024. As for Jeff Hardy, he was in AEW for approximately two years, from early 2022 until his departure in June 2024.
Surprisingly, the Hardys never held any titles during their tenure in AEW. Matt had a “Family Office” storyline and was also associated with Ethan Page, but he didn’t hold the Tag Team Titles with his brother Jeff.
Matt Hardy Speaks Out About The Hardys Disappointing AEW Run
During an interview with the I Love Wrestling Podcast, Matt Hardy discussed his time in AEW by stating that he and his brother weren’t given opportunities in the company.
“We don’t feel like we got the opportunities we should have got, especially towards the end.”
After departing AEW in 2024, The Hardys found their way back to TNA, where they won the Tag Team Titles in late 2024.
“And we just wanted to prove to ourselves that we were still very valuable and I think that match proved how much value we had. The whole resurgence of TNA and the partnership with WWE and everything else. I mean, TNA’s got a lot of great things going on right now.”
As for Jeff Hardy, he spoke about how big it was for the brothers to return to TNA when they did.
“In my personal life, almost burning everything down in 2022 and ending everything. To win the titles again and to have that moment and that feeling with my brother was like, okay, I’ve rebuilt again, not to burn it down. So, that was a great feeling as well.”
The Hardys will face off with the legendary Team 3D’s Brother Ray & Brother D-Von one more time at TNA Bound for Glory on October 12th in a Tables Match.
Before they get to Bound for Glory, Matt and Jeff Hardy will try to win the NXT Tag Team Titles from Darkstate in a Title vs. Title match on the October 7th edition of NXT.
