Wrestling CM Punk Was Special Moment For WWE Star

CM Punk

A WWE superstar enjoyed getting into the ring with CM Punk.

CM Punk made his shocking WWE return at Survivor Series in Chicago after walking out of the company nearly a decade earlier.

The first televised match that Punk had following his return was in the classic Royal Rumble match, but he also competed in live event matches in the final week of 2023 against Dominik Mysterio.

Dominik Mysterio was an interesting choice for an opponent for CM Punk because they had a history from when Punk feuded with Dominik’s father Rey Mysterio in a feud that saw Punk taunt Rey’s young family. That was a long time ago because both men have changed a lot since then.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Dominik Mysterio spoke about being CM Punk’s first opponent since his WWE return.

“Yeah, kind of crazy. I didn’t expect it to be me, just because we have so much great talent right now, especially the roster we have today, Raw and SmackDown. But the fact that they trusted me to go in there with him on his first match back, like you said, after what, 10 years, I’m glad I was able to give him his first punch.”

Dominik Mysterio Was Excited To Wrestle CM Punk

As he continued, Dominik recalled how he felt when he knew he would get to wrestle CM Punk at WWE live events.

“It was special because I knew the company trusted me with things like that. I wasn’t aware of of it until I kind of got pulled aside and was like, ‘Hey, how do you feel about working CM Punk for the live events tour?’ And I was like, ‘Bring it on, let’s go.’ I was excited. I was ready for it because I knew it was another opportunity and another challenge for me so I was excited to cross another one off the list.”

During another recent Dominik Mysterio interview, which was likely more in character, he called CM Punk an “old head” and made it clear he wanted to face Punk in the ring again.
