WrestleMania Match Not The Rock’s Decision To Make

Roman Reigns The Rock Dwayne Johnson

While there is always going to be speculation about The Rock facing Roman Reigns in WWE, it’s a match that might not be up to The People’s Champion.

The last time Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock had a “real” match in WWE was at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, which is over a decade ago. Yes, he did beat Erick Rowan in about 10 seconds at WrestleMania 32, but that was one Rock Bottom with no bumps.

Over the last several years, especially going into WrestleMania 39 this year, there was a lot of speculation that The Rock would face his cousin Roman Reigns. The Rock said last month that it was “locked in” at one point, but it didn’t happen.

It has been reported by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that multiple sources close to WWE say “the decision about WrestleMania will not be The Rock’s to make, nor is the main event even a topic of substance.” Barrasso added that “there are currently no plans for this to happen.”

That report also noted that “it would not be a certainty” that The Rock would even accept the match due to having multiple obligations. Currently, the SAG-AFTRA strike is preventing movies/TV shows from being made, but when that ends, The Rock will likely be a very busy man just like John Cena and others.

Roman Reigns had a staredown with Cody Rhodes on Smackdown

This past Friday on Smackdown in Tulsa, WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso easily beat the team of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. After the match, Cody & Jey were in the aisle when the music of Roman Reigns hit.

After a staredown between Jey & Cody along with Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa, Reigns and Rhodes locked eyes for a staredown that the camera zoomed on while the fans cheered.

While Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes didn’t say anything, the audience watching the show knew the story because Cody wants another shot at “The Tribal Chief” after coming up short at WrestleMania 39 due to Solo Sikoa’s interference. As the two men continued to stare, new Smackdown GM Nick Aldis and other WWE Officials arrived to prevent a fight from happening.

That Roman Reigns-Cody Rhodes showdown could have been WWE’s way of telling fans that Roman vs. Cody is the plan for WrestleMania 40 next year, but we will have to wait nearly six months to see if it happens.
