WWE WrestleMania 39 Will Feature Another Sponsored Match

There is going to be a sponsored match at WrestleMania 39 according to recent comments from a WWE Senior Vice President.

At this year’s Royal Rumble event, WWE featured the first-ever “Mountain Dew” Pitch Black Match featuring Bray Wyatt and LA Knight. Going into the match, fans had no idea what to expect regarding the match other than Mountain Dew was sponsoring it since they have a drink called Pitch Black.

The Pitch Black match saw Wyatt and Knight have a match in darkness while wearing gear that glowed in the dark, the ring ropes had tape on them to glow more and other special effects to make it stand out. Wyatt won the match rather easily.

It looks like WWE is going to go that same route again with a sponsored match. WWE Senior VP and Head of Global Sales and Partnerships Craig Stimmel told The Hollywood Reporter that the company is planning another “sponsored” match at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles on April 1st and April 2nd.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but it’ll be around a match, and the sponsorship of that match, and what they’ll be able to bring to that match. So we’re going to do things that fit inside of our storyline as well.”

Stimmel continued talking about WWE using sponsors to help build a match at WrestleMania 39 while noting the sponsor will be part of the post-show press conference as well.

“We’re tracking exactly where we want to be going into the events. We’ve also got a diverse set of sponsorships coming in … we’ve got snacks, we have beverages, among others. So it’s a really nice diverse portfolio of brands that are joining in a myriad of ways. When you think about putting WrestleMania on, we’re going to be showing across millions of households on Peacock, we’re also going to have a social presence.”

“We’re also going to have a post-match press conference that’s going to be sponsored this year — you saw that with Mountain Dew and Royal Rumble — but we’re going to have that again at WrestleMania. It’s on YouTube and on TikTok and on Facebook, so we’re gonna have a myriad of opportunities to tell a brand story across different spectrums with different voices. So I think when we approach brands, we want to make sure that that holistic picture is in place… we’re looking for that audience overlap.”

Some of the sponsors at this year’s WrestleMania will include Mars/Snickers, Pepsi, Take Two and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
