WrestleMania 38 Match Voted As Worst Of 2022

WWE wrestlemania 38 stage

A match from WrestleMania holds the distinction of being voted as the worst pro wrestling match of 2022 in a popular wrestling newsletter.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards for 2022 were posted on Friday (for subscribers only) with a lot of different categories producing interesting results. AEW’s Jon Moxley won Wrestler of the Year ahead of Roman Reigns, FTR were voted the best tag team, the FTR rivalry with The Briscoe Brothers was voted the best of the year and so on.

When it comes to the “worst” categories, there were plenty of those as well. For the worst match, the Wrestling Observer readers went back to WrestleMania 38 to vote for a match that was unadvertised.

During WrestleMania 38 night two, Pat McAfee beat Austin Theory in a singles match. It seemed like that would be all for McAfee on that night, but sadly there would be more.

After that match was over, Vince McMahon challenged McAfee to a match right there. It ended up being a very short match with Theory interfering heavily for McMahon. The finish of the match saw Vince McMahon kick a football into McAfee’s ribs and pin him to win the match at 3:45.

That “classic” battle that saw 76-year-old (77 now) Vince McMahon beat Pat McAfee was voted as the Worst Match of 2022 according to the Wrestling Observer’s voters.

The five worst matches of 2022 according to votes:

1. Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee @ WrestleMania 38

2. Ric Flair & Andrade vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal @ Ric Flair’s Last Match

3. Ronda Rousey vs. Shotzi @ Survivor Series

4. Men’s Royal Rumble

5. Matt Cardona vs. Trevor Murdoch vs. Tyrus @ NWA

Following his win at WrestleMania 38, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin showed up at the right time to have a beer bash and deliver Stone Cold Stunners to McMahon, Theory and even McAfee as well.
