Willow Nightingale Creates History On AEW Dynamite

Willow Nightingale entrance AEW WrestleDream

The final AEW match of 2025 saw the CEO, Mercedes Mone, defend her TBS Championship in the main event of AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash, to cap off an entertaining night of action.

The night saw two championship matches take place on the show, with both the TBS and the AEW National Championship on the line. Ricochet defended his title against Jack Perry while Mone faced Willow Nightingale for her belt.

Willow and Mone faced each other at World’s End this past weekend, where Mone and Athena were unable to dethrone Willow and Harley Cameron as the Women’s World Tag Team Champions.

Willow Nightingale becomes first AEW women’s double champion

Mercedes Mone had an amazing run as the TBS Champion after she defeated Nightingale to win the belt in May 2024 and became the longest-reigning TBS Champion in history.

She faced Nightingale tonight in a brutal and hard-hitting match where both wrestlers pushed each other to their limits. Mone, who has been losing some of her titles recently, lost her most valued possession tonight.

As the match went in overtime, Mone seemed to have gained the win via a count out but Willow made it back just in time. She then hit Mercedes with a gutwrentch powerbomb to make history and become the first ever two-time TBS Champion.
