The story of William Regal returning to WWE continues with the former NXT General Manager having a VP job title when he starts in WWE again.

In an update on Regal’s role in WWE moving forward, PWInsider reports that “William Regal has officially come to terms on his new position with the company and will start the first week of January.”

William Regal will also have a Vice President position in WWE when he returns in January 2023, but the specific job title has not been announced yet.

Over the past few weeks, it has been reported, and even confirmed by AEW’s Owner Tony Khan, that William Regal is headed back to WWE after joining AEW back in March.

“I got a phone call saying William Regal had approached [Chief Legal Officer] Megha (Parekh) and said, it was all very legitimate and valid stuff, basically, he has a son who works in another wrestling promotion [WWE] and he really wanted us, at the end of the year when we had the option to renew his contract, he was asking that we would not. Nothing bad.”

“We were having a great time working together, but this is an opportunity for him to go back and work in these golden years of his career with his son and do things that he likes to do, coaching, and he has friends that he would like to go back and coach with.”

During a recent AEW media conference call, Khan continued to explain why Regal would want to go back to WWE.

“I got a message from Regal, asking if we could talk. I made time to talk to him. I went outside the hospital, I’m sitting on the park bench in front of the Mayo Clinic, and we had this really long and good talk. It was very positive. He really had good intentions for why he wanted to go back, and it made a lot of sense to me why he would want to work with his son and be with his son.”

“He said to me, and it made sense, ‘Given where you’re sitting right now, does it make sense to you why I would want to go back and be with my son?’ At that point, where I was sitting, it really did make a lot of sense and the last thing I wanted to do in that moment was prevent any parent and any child from being together.”

On the main WWE roster, Paul “Triple H” Levesque is the Chief Content Officer in charge of the creative direction and the talent roster. Meanwhile, Shawn Michaels is the WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative that’s in charge of the NXT brand, which is similar to what Triple H did for about a decade while

During Triple H’s run calling the shots in NXT, Regal was right by his side. Triple H and Regal have been good friends going back nearly 30 years when Regal helped Triple H when he started wrestling for WCW. When Regal joined WWE later in the decade, that friendship continued and they remain very close.

As mentioned above, one of the main reasons cited for William Regal wanting to work for WWE is that he wants to be closer to his son Charlie Dempsey, who is part of the NXT brand.

Per the agreement in letting Regal go, it is believed that he won’t have an on-screen role in WWE like his past job as the NXT GM. That could change in the future.
