Will Ospreay Reveals Truth About Serious Neck Injury
Will Ospreay knows changes are needed.
In mid-July, Will Ospreay revealed he was suffering from a serious neck injury. Ospreay noted that two herniated discs were pressing on his spinal cord.
Worryingly, on July 18, it was reported that Will Ospreay’s injury was “worse than first thought,” something later alluded to by the star in a promo on Dynamite in Glasgow ahead of Forbidden Door.
A report following that taping confirmed that the star will undergo surgery shortly after the event. It’s previously been claimed that Will Ospreay could miss up to 14 months of action while he recovers.

In a new interview with Zack Heydorn for The Takedown On Si, Ospray responded to the reports about his neck and laid bare the true nature of the injury. He began by confirming that a series of herniated discs are pushing against his spinal cord, which in turn is causing issues with his nerves.
“I am compromised. I’ve got a few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves. But, I can do stuff, and I can perform one last time before I need to go get it all corrected.”
The British star confirmed reports that the injury is worse than doctors originally thought, but claimed the issue is manageable. In a message similar to that given to Cody Rhodes ahead of Hell In A Cell 2022, Ospreay was told he’s highly unlikely to make the injury worse by wrestling one more time.
“I got told after All In that I was gonna need to rest and take some time off to see how this is gonna go. And then the MRIs came back, and I got told this is worse than what we thought it was gonna be, but that it’s manageable. It’s absolutely fine. The surgeon even told me that it’s not going to get any worse. It just needs to be corrected.”
Ospreay later revealed that he’s been dealing with the issue for around ten months, and he’s already been told that he may need to modify his in-ring style when he returns.
“People that have said after this, like, there’s things that you’re gonna have to say no to and there’s things that you’re gonna have to turn tone down on with my style. And it’s not computing in my head, because I feel like I’m in good shape right now.
If there’s even the smallest chance that I’m not going to be the exact same afterwards, I’m just going to go in there (at Forbidden Door) and just be Will Ospreay for one last night.”
At Forbidden Door, Will Ospreay will team with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, and Kota Ibushi to face the Death Riders, Gabe Kidd, and the Young Bucks.
