Will Ospreay Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Owen Hart

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Owen Hart.

The British-born star is set to enter the 2025 edition of the Owen Hart Cup when he battles Kevin Knight at AEW Dynasty on 6th April.

Brody King will meet Konosuke Takeshita, Marc Briscoe squares off against Kyle Fletcher and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page will compete against a wild card entrant in the remaining three Quarter Final contests.

The winner of the prestigious tournament will also receive a shot at the AEW World Championship at All In 2025.

Former IWGP star Ospreay reflected on the career of Owen Hart during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, sharing his gratitude to have captured the same Championship once worn by Hart himself:

“The best thing about that (IWGP Jr. Heavyweight belt) is everyone that held it has their name on the belt, and I couldn’t believe how lucky I was that I had a piece of history that Owen Hart was a part of as well.

I remember being super grateful and just couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be in that same category of champions. I feel like the history behind ‘The Owen,’ it’s been pretty well-received. And I’m looking forward to continuing the legacy and putting on great showcase matches.”

Will Ospreay Has High Praise For Owen Hart

Ospreay also took time to praise Owen Hart for his family driven approach to the business, noting that he too shares a similar family-first philosophy to his career:

I’ve watched a lot of the stuff from Japan, like his junior heavyweight stuff, and I just feel like he had a snap to him like no one else. And when I watch the documentaries or how much he was a family man and how much he loved his time.

And I think that’s the thing that I respect the most about him, that he was always in a rush to try and get back to his family. That’s like, kind of the situation I’m in myself, flying always back and forth to the U.K.”
