Will Ospreay continues to win big.

Will Ospreay has been named Wrestler of the Year for 2023 by the readers of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The British star enjoyed the kind of year many can only dream of, wrestling two instant classics opposite Kenny Omega while also competing in front of a packed house at Wembley Stadium. Ospreay was also involved in no less than eight matches that were awarded five stars or more by Dave Meltzer.

The high-flyer was followed by Cody Rhodes in second place, MJF in third, Roman Reigns in fourth with Bryan Danielson rounding out the top five.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that despite several standout runs from several performers, Ospreay ran out a clear winner.

“Will Ospreay, 30, ended up a pretty clear cut winner especially as pt pertained to first place votes, in a race that was the hardest to call for Wrestler of the Year in many years.

Unlike with most years, when it’s usually obvious who is going to win this award, this year it was unclear with strong arguments for all of the top four.”

Will Ospreay Set To Begin AEW Career At Revolution

To cap off his incredible year, Will Ospreay officially signed with AEW at Full Gear in November. Although the star had appeared for the promotion before, he was under contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling at the time.

After finishing up his NJPW commitments, Ospreay is due to begin his AEW career in earnest when he takes on Konosuke Takeshita at Revolution.
