Will Ospreay wants to step into the ring with a legendary former AEW World Champion.

It has been just over one year since Will Ospreay became a full-time AEW wrestler in March 2024. Since then, Ospreay has been in the ring with some of the biggest names in the company like Swerve Strickland, Bryan Danielson, Darby Allin, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet, and many others.

There is a former AEW World Champion that Ospreay hasn’t wrestled yet: Samoa Joe.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Will Ospreay explained how Samoa Joe is a dream match of his, partly because Ospreay was inspired to be a wrestler by former WWE & TNA World Champion AJ Styles, who is perhaps the greatest rival of Joe’s career, and also a close friend.

“There’s someone in AEW that I’ve never actually crossed paths with, but, like, has such a tie to him. I was thinking about it for so long, I was like, You know what? I’d love to wrestle him, Samoa Joe.”

“I’ve never wrestled Samoa Joe. I’ve never wrestled him, never crossed paths with him.”

“I feel like that’s someone that has such a tie to him and knows AJ so well. I think they’re best buds.”

As he continued, Ospreay said that he wanted to be tested by facing a powerhouse like Joe, a 25-year pro wrestling veteran who has been a World Champion in ROH, TNA and AEW, along with a former NXT & US Champion in WWE.

“I want to feel that. I want to be tested. I want to be pushed to my limits. So that’s something that I would love to do.”

Will Ospreay Is Undefeated In AEW In 2025

It has been a great 2025 for Will Ospreay because he’s won every match he’s had in AEW this year, whether in singles matches or tag team matches.

At AEW Dynasty in Philadelphia, Will Ospreay won his quarterfinal match in the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament when he defeated AEW newcomer Kevin Knight. Ospreay moves on to the semifinals in the tournament, where the winner gets a shot at the AEW World Title at All In Texas on July 12th.

There are likely many fans who have picked Ospreay to win the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament since he is a fan favorite who would be a popular World Champion in AEW.

The winning ways continued for Ospreay on AEW in Baltimore as he teamed up with Knight, Mark Briscoe & “Speedball” Mike Bailey to defeat the team of Ricochet, Lio Rush, Action Andretti & The Beast Mortos in what was billed as a “$400,000 Explosive 8-Man Tag Match” by AEW.
