Will Ospreay Very Interested In Wrestling AEW Newcomer

Will Ospreay poses on AEW Dynamite

Will Ospreay is ready to face off against a new AEW wrestler whom he has wrestled in the past in another promotion.

It has been reported recently that former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander has signed a deal with AEW rather than going to WWE. Alexander worked for TNA from 2019 until early 2025, but made it clear he was ready to move on.

The 2024 version of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament kicked off this month in AEW. One of the matches in the quarterfinals will see “Hangman” Adam Page face off against a Wild Card opponent, meaning it’s a surprise. That has led people to believe that AEW could use that spot to have Alexander debut in the company.

Will Ospreay is on the other side of the bracket. In his quarterfinal match with Kevin Knight at AEW Dynasty, Ospreay picked up the big win over Knight with a Hidden Blade elbow to the head. Ospreay will face the winner of the Brody King-Konosuke Takeshita match in the Owen Hart Cup semifinals.

Prior to Ospreay signing with AEW full-time, he wrestled Alexander in TNA twice, and each man won a match. The last Ospreay-Alexander match in January 2024 was won by Alexander and rated 5.5* by the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, who raved about the match.

Will Ospreay Believes Josh Alexander Is “Genuinely Incredible” As A Pro Wrestler

In an interview with The Takedown On SI, Will Ospreay wasn’t able to confirm if former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander is officially joining AEW, but Ospreay did have good things to say about the man.

“It’s not been confirmed that he’s signed anything yet. But I mean, look, I had two epic matches with him in TNA. If anyone is a big Josh Alexander fan, like, I am. When we wrestled that first time, I had no problem telling him, like, I didn’t really know much about him, but I was a fan the moment, like, that first five minutes I started wrestling with him. I just knew, ‘oh my God, this guy is actually genuinely incredible.'”

As he continued, Will Ospreay discussed the possibility of facing Josh Alexander in AEW and even in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

“So like, having to have that, and then when we done the rematch and he bested me, I would love it for him to be him, and if we were able to meet in the finals to settle the score. I can’t really confirm. I don’t think he has signed yet.”

The winner of the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments will receive World Title matches at the All In Texas event on July 12th, which is considered AEW’s biggest show of the year.
