Will Ospreay Provides Injury Update Ahead Of Forbidden Door PPV
Will Ospreay assured fans that he’s more than ready to face Kenny Omega at Forbidden Door on Sunday.
On June 25th, Ospreay and Omega will fight in quite possibly the most anticipated rematch of the year. Omega beat Ospreay for the IWGP US Championship on January 4th at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 in what many fans have called the best match of the year.
But that match, along with many others, has taken a serious toll on Ospreay’s body. Years of wrestling in a high-risk and high-octane style, coupled with a gradual change in his physique, have caused him to suffer many injuries. Some observers have even wondered whether Ospreay will still be wrestling in ten years when he reaches age 40 or if he’ll have retired long before then.
However, Ospreay’s immediate wrestling future is still crystal clear. He is still on a collision course with Omega and assured fans that his shoulder, which had been giving him problems in the past, will not be an issue this Sunday, per a discussion on Knotfest.
“[My shoulder is] as good as it physically can be, the weight difference was for sure a factor facing Lance [Archer]. The sheer mass of the guy and it not being fully healed was extremely difficult to be able to hit any type of power moves, so had to go for strikes instead.
There is way more pressure as everyone will always want to be able to top it. This time, I’m more motivated to get the right results and have answers to his offense.”
Both Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega will have something additional to prove going into this match. Both of them take their match quality ratings very seriously, so both of them will be looking to have another scale-breaking performance. If their match ends up getting rated 5-Stars-or-higher, than Ospreay will officially surpass Mitsuharu Misawa and become the wrestler with more top-rated matches than anyone in history.
