Will Ospreay Eyeing First-Time Ever Clash With NJPW Star
Will Ospreay wants to face a top star from NJPW.
During his time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Will Ospreay cemented himself as arguably the best wrestler on the planet. His success meant that when he jumped to AEW in November 2023, expectations were through the roof.
Since then, the British star has picked up several huge wins on his way to two reigns with the International Championship. But that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten the promotion where he made his name.
On August 24, AEW and NJPW will co-promote Forbidden Door with the biggest names from each promotion battling for supremacy, and Ospreay knows who he wants to face.
During an interview with Josh Martinez of Z100 on Superstar Crossover, Ospreay was asked which Japanese wrestler he’d love to wrestle, and he quickly named IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto.
“Strangely, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion right now, Goto. We never wrestled one another. Look, Forbidden Door’s coming up. So, we can do it now.”
Will Ospreay Closing On AEW Gold
Before Will Ospreay gets to Forbidden Door, there’s the small matter of Double or Nothing and a date with “Hangman” Adam Page. Not only will the match see two of AEW’s biggest names go head to head, but they will do so in the finals of the Owen Hart Cup.
Then, to add even more intrigue, the winner of that match will challenge for the AEW World Championship at All In Texas. Mercedes Mone and Jamie Hayter will meet in the final of the women’s tournament.
On the May 14 special Beach Break edition of Dynamite, Ospreay and Page actually teamed to great effect to beat Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander of the Don Callis Family.
Meanwhile, on Collision, it was announced that Nigel McGuinnness will return to the ring at Double or Nothing to team with Daniel Garcia against FTR.
