Will Ospreay Knows How Fans Would React If He Signed With WWE
Will Ospreay is All Elite, but he also knows if he signed with WWE instead then fans would react a certain way.
After becoming a main event star and IWGP World Champion, Will Ospreay felt it was time to leave New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2023. Even though there was interest from WWE, Will Ospreay chose to sign with AEW in November 2023 and he eventually joined the company a few months later when his NJPW commitments ended.
Following the news of Ospreay going to AEW, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque took a shot at Ospreay by taking a shot at the British star for not wanting to work a heavy schedule. Ospreay has talked about wanting to stay living in England with his family, which AEW allows him to do.
Will Ospreay said recently that those comments from Triple H were hurtful even though Triple H didn’t say Ospreay’s name specifically.
In an interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay discussed WWE fans who are critical of him while saying that if he signed with WWE instead of AEW, those fans would love him there.
“If I had gone there, they’d be f**king wanking into tissues over me. It’s the same. You have to separate it, otherwise you drive yourself insane. Wrestling is my passion and my job. If you have something that you are passionate about, you really don’t care what people are saying who have never impacted your career in your entire life.
Once upon a time, they were big hits, anyone who ever complained about AEW, like the grifters or whatever they are called, even if they say something, they’re not impacting our show, the second most profitable wrestling company of all time. That’s not talked about enough and everyone wants to dig at it.
I get it, there are things we could generally improve on, and it’s fair to listen to some criticism. For me, I don’t lose sleep over anyone trying to tell me how to wrestle because look at me. I’m a f**king idiot. I know I am, but I’ve carved out this little lane for myself.
I was destined to be someone that either worked at McDonald’s or pushed trolley’s at Tescos, but because I learned the trade over in England and Japan, and my enthusiasm and my passion comes over here, I don’t let things…if people are like, ‘Oh, this is s**t.’ ‘Why?’ ‘Because it’s s**t.’ That’s not fair. If you give me criticism and points that I can work on, then I’ll try my best to work on it. I’m not going to get it right away, but I think that’s the stuff people need to speak more about.”
Will Ospreay Wins Gruesome Steel Cage Match At AEW Revolution
At AEW Revolution, Will Ospreay got some revenge against his former best friend Kyle Fletcher by beating him in an incredible Steel Cage Match in front of a raucous crowd in Los Angeles.
The spot of the match was when Ospreay gave Fletcher a Spanish Fly slam from the top of the cage that sent both men crashing into the mat from about 15 feet in the air.
After both men bled heavily while filling the ring with their blood, Ospreay hit his Hidden Blade elbow and a Tiger Driver 91 for the pinfall win. It is likely the end of Ospreay’s rivalry with Fletcher.
