Will Ospreay Defends How He Dresses On AEW TV
Will Ospreay has heard the critics about his wardrobe on AEW television, and he’s ready to defend himself.
The main event at AEW Double or Nothing on May 25th in Phoenix will be the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals. It was announced on AEW Dynamite when Will Ospreay was in the ring talking to “Hangman” Adam Page about their massive tournament final match.
Whoever wins the Ospreay-Page match in the Owen Hart Cup Finals will challenge the AEW World Heavyweight Champion (currently Jon Moxley) at All In Texas on July 12th, which is AEW’s biggest show of the year.
That promo by Ospreay and Page was praised heavily because of how well both men talked about their need to win the match and wanting to end Moxley’s reign of terror as AEW World Champion.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, the high-flier Ospreay spoke about his Dynamite promo exchange with Hangman.
“Thank you, man. Once again, I have not been so confident in my microphone technique. It’s been a lot of practicing and looking in the mirror and just trying my best to do this. There are certain times when I wish I reined it in a little bit but, I think this is just getting my reps in and learning how to do this side of the job.
But, I’ll be honest with you, I was really proud of what I was able to do there. I think we really sold the pay-per-view. I mean, the numbers say itself. I think the tickets are nearly sold out. So the fact that we was able to put a little bit more emphasis on how important this match is is just something that I’m just extremely proud of.”
Will Ospreay Feels Like He Dresses Appropriately On AEW TV
When Will Ospreay appears on AEW television in a non-wrestling show, he usually dresses casually rather than putting on a suit like the former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Many people in wrestling might not wear suits, but they wear dressier clothes. It all depends on the character involved.
In Ospreay’s opinion, the way he dresses makes him more relatable.
“It’s essential (to be honest with the audience). For me, I think the more I show vulnerability and the more — I know that one of the criticisms I get, not just about my hair, but like… dressing appropriate for the role I wanna be as one of the top guys and I do understand that to an extent. But I feel like more of the authentic that I dress, the more that people relate to me.
I’d just done an interview over in a news studio… I feel like because I am dressed in a certain way, I look way more presentable. Like, I come down a level and it’s more of like I’m way more humble, I’m way more approachable in that sense and I think that’s the reason a lot of people have gravitated more towards me in that sense.”
In addition to Ospreay against Page at Double or Nothing, the Women’s Owen Hart Cup Final will see Mercedes Mone face Jamie Hayter, and there will also be a massive Anarchy in the Arena match as well.
