Will Ospreay Names Potential AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door Opponents

Will Ospreay poses on AEW Dynamite

Will Ospreay already has some opponents in mind for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Back in April, it was announced that AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will take place in London, England, at the O2 Arena on Sunday, August 24th. Additionally, AEW will take Dynamite and Collision to Glasgow, Scotland, for the first time on August 20th.

With the venue now confirmed, speculation has begun on what interpromotional dream matches could take place at the event. Now, Will Ospreay has weighed in with who he wants to face in his home country.

Speaking to the UK’s Daily Star, The Aerial Assassin first named Kazuchika Okada. While both are now in the same company again, Ospreay explained that his personal history with Okada made it an ideal event to reignite their decade-long rivalry.

“There’s one match in particular that’s like in my brain, and it’s only because of the history behind the Forbidden Door pay-per-view. It’s like two months off, but 10 years ago, I wrestled [Kazuchika] Okada in Reading… the first time I ever wrestled him, and I’d like to revisit that.”

Another old foe Ospreay wants to square off with again is former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. While the two have faced each other many times in the past, the 20,000-seat O2 Arena would bring their feud to a much bigger stage.

“Obviously… a classic one would be me and Zack [ZSJ].To do it at such a giant facility, where all of our matches have been in, like, either Japanese arenas or very intimate [UK venues].”

Finally, the former Commonwealth Kingpin brought up one of his last rivals in New Japan, Gabe Kidd of the Bullet Club War Dogs. Ospreay’s last match in Japan saw him lead the United Empire into a steel cage war against Kidd and the War Dogs.

The match was one of the most brutal seen in the company, and the War Dogs came up on top, sending Ospreay to AEW with a loss. Ospreay and Kidd have only had a single one-on-one bout, a classic encounter at RevPro Uprising back in 2023. Since then, Kidd has established himself as one of the top young stars in NJPW, and Ospreay finds the idea of facing him again intriguing.

“Something that obviously has been really intriguing a lot recently is me and Gabe Kidd. The animosity that we both bring, I think we would need a censor button constantly… that is definitely like a South versus North thing.”

In the end, though, Ospreay says he is “open to anything and everything” at Forbidden Door.

Will Ospreay Isn’t a WWE Fan

During the same interview, Will Ospreay explained why he’s never been a fan of WWE. The star says he simply doesn’t enjoy the product, although he does have respect for the wrestlers who work in the company.
