Why WWE’s Jey Uso Feels He Has To Prove Himself

Even though he won the Royal Rumble, Jey Uso still believes that he has to prove himself to WWE fans.

The first two WWE PLEs of 2025 have shocked fans with the endings to those shows. While fans are still stunned by John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber, Jey Uso winning the Men’s Royal Rumble was also an ending that surprised a lot of people.

Going into the Royal Rumble, former WWE Champions like Cena, CM Punk and Roman Reigns were considered as possible winners, but instead it was Jey Uso eliminating Cena to win the match and punch his ticket to WrestleMania 41.

As the Royal Rumble winner, Jey got to pick what champion he could face at WrestleMania 41. Rather than pick his friend Cody Rhodes, the WWE Champion, Jey chose to face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title.

That match at WrestleMania 41 will be the biggest match of Jey’s career since he has spent most of his 15-year WWE career as a tag team wrestler with his twin brother Jey Uso. Many people consider The Usos to be one of the best teams in company history, but Jey has also thrived on his own over the last two years.

Jey Uso Is Hoping WWE Fans Will Continue To Ride With Him

Rikishi is a WWE Hall of Famer and he is Jey’s father, so the pro wrestling business is in Jey’s blood. While talking about his current success in WWE, Jey spoke to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports/Shak Wrestling about his mindset and the lessons he has learned from his father.

“I just think — no matter what I’m doing right now, I’m still trying to prove myself as a singles star, a singles competitor even though I’ve been by myself for maybe a year and a half. I’m still trying to prove myself man and it’s okay, it’s okay, this is my story.

I think a lot of people rock with me because they didn’t see me — they watched me grow in front of them, they know where I came from, they raised me up. So, that’s all imma do, uce.

Every Monday, I’m just going to — I show up to work and I make sure I leave it all out there man because I’m trying to enjoy this ride. My father says it all the time, it don’t matter how high you get, you’ll always meet the same people on your way down. Be kind to everyone, be nice, be respectful.

That’s us though, that’s family oriented. You can meet all my brothers and everyone and we’ll greet you the same and love you the same man. I’m going to just show up every Monday and do what I got to do and hopefully the people will still ride with me.”

WrestleMania 41 takes place on April 19 and April 20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
